1953 Morgan Plus 4 Twin Spare

Gassman Automotive is pleased to be able to offer this stunning piece of automotive history.

One of the longest running models of any mark in history. This 1953 Morgan is as aesthetically pleasing as it is fun to drive. Featuring the bullet-proof Triumph TR2 engine and Moss gearbox, time and race tested, this car creates an extremely exhilerating experience. As all Morgans of period, this car has light panels over ash substructure, creating a very unique, light-weight body and chassis, but its suspension relies on the flexibility of the chassis, which makes it agile and quick.

In 1953, this car was part of the last of the flat radiator Morgans being produced. However, it was one of approximately 25 cars which fell into an unusual situation. Flat radiator vehicles were seen as dated and dealers were having trouble selling these last Morgans. This car sat on a lot in Canada at British Bike and Car for quite a long time until eventually they decided to ship these remaining cars back to the factory to have the grille changed the later-style waterfall grille. While it was sold as a 1953 Twin-Spare, it wore the later model grille. It seems almost an impossibility for something like this to happen in today's world. The streamlining of the manufacturing of cars and the impersonal nature in which they're dealt with wouldn't allow it. But back in the early 50's, with small manufacturers building these cars by hand, things like this weren't so uncommon.

The car was restored in the early 80's and was privy to a complete frame-off restoration. The body, wood structures, and panels had become weak and corroded, and the entire body from the cowl back was sent to England, to the Morgan factory, to be rebuilt. It was decided by Morgan to supply an exact copy made by the same people in the same factory, as a brand new piece, which was the pinnacle part of this restoration.

The car is finished in triple-black. It comes with tonneau cover, boot cover, and soft top, as well as side curtains, all finished in black canvas. The leather is in excellent shape and has just started to get a tiny bit of a petina, which gives it that perfect classic look. All the gauges operate as they should and a beautiful wooden dash has been installed along with a Bluemels Brookland steering wheel. The entire brake system, both mechanically and hydraulically, have just been rebuilt as well as a full rebuild of the steering box, and a brand new set of bias ply tires. The engine is extremely strong, with very good oil pressure. No smoke, no noises, running as designed.

It is a well-equipped, ready-to-go, beautiful classic and would be stunning in any collection or on any show field. All repairs and service have just been done by Gassman Automotive. Priced for quick sale at $34,500.
