1956 Ford Thunderbird

Ford Thunderbird has been sold. Please visit Cars for Sale to view the rest of our inventory!

In 1955, Ford began producing it’s newly designed, sporty 2 seat convertible: the Thunderbird. 50 years and 4.4 million Thunderbirds later, this car has built a long reputation of reliability and comfort. When sales first began in 1955, over 16,000 were sold and the Thunderbird was deemed a success. Few changes were made to the 1956 model, other than the optimal upgraded 312Cu. In. V8 motor and it was the first year of 12 volt. Originally, the T-bird was designed as a competitor of the Corvette, but with it’s larger body, sleeker lines, and roomier interior, it was dubbed a sporty, personal luxury car and was loved by the masses.

We just purchased this lovely 1956 Ford Thunderbird while looking for an E-bird for a customer. This car has been privately owned in Virginia for the past 14 years and was previously purchased from the original owner’s estate in Florida. The car shows 44,000 miles on the speedometer and the title, and the vehicle verifies this information. This car was re-sprayed 17 years ago, but looks like it just left the paint booth as the paint is near flawless and the body is exceptionally straight. Much care was taken when painted, as the door jambs are clean and fully painted, as well as the seal around the trunk.  The hard top is in marvelous condition including the headliner which is not falling or drooping at all. The interior has had the carpets replaced, but all of the dash is perfect original, including a full set of working instruments. The door panels in this car are equally great. The motor turning on the panels and the dash adds a very unique touch of class to the overall appearance. The interior is very comfortable and roomy making it easy to get in and out of the car. The photos will show the top in its upright position, as well as the down position. The car includes power seats that make it very easy to put the soft top up and down. The chrome on the exterior and the interior is superb, except for a few minor scratches on the front and rear bumpers. All 5 hub caps are exceptional, however the cap on the spare tire has a small dent. It drives remarkably well and shifts perfect. Brake hydraulics have been rebuilt and the car does not pull at all. A new set of white wall radials has been installed, and therefore the car does not “wander” like most 56’s did. This car is also  equipped with a tonneau cover to cover the interior when the soft top is down. It is also equipped with the 312 Cu. In. V8, as well as the factory engine dress up kit. This car has an NADA value of $89,000 and we are offering the car at a fraction of this value.
