One of the cars we just purchased out of a large estate on the West coast, the owner of all the cars was a meticulous mechanic who was very interested in originality, and was very capable of fine tuning to keep his cars in the highest state of readiness for use. He passed away in October, and we purchased the cars from the estate in February.
This is a very rare opportunity to buy the car you have always dreamed of in the price range you always wished for. Austin-Healey 3000s are normally either complete junk in a field, or fully restored for $125,000. This car is neither, it is a beauitful running car, fully functional, that has had slight dings and doings over the years. The paint is older, but still shiny and very presentable. The interior is new leather seats and carpets, all gauges are functional. Overdrive works beautiful, as does the transmission. We have just installed a new fuel tank, fuel pump, rebuilt the carburetors, and installed a new battery. The car has a very small amount of rust on the inside of both rocker panels, but has no rust on the outriggers. It is extremely solid, with the above exception, and is a car that you would not need to restore to just enjoy. The motor runs as good as any fresh motor I have ever seen. Excellent oil pressure, 170 degrees operating temperature, no smoke or noises. We chose not to restore this car, as there are so many restored cars available, and we didn’t want to take an opportunity away from someone who just wanted an affordable, nice car to drive.
