One of the cars we just purchased out of a large estate on the West coast, the owner of all the cars was a meticulous mechanic who was very interested in originality, and was very capable of fine tuning to keep his cars in the highest state of readiness for use. He passed away in October, and we purchased the cars from the estate in February.
While cleaning up this car and preparing it for sale, we were continually amazed at how exceptionally good this car is. The photos of the trunk are really representative of how wonderful this car is throughout. Matching numbers head, block, and original VIN plate. This 3.8L engine sounds exceptionally smooth and quiet. Oil pressure is great. No noises or smoking. Clutch is very smooth. Car is fitted with Avon tires on proper chrome wire wheels. Suspension is very tidy, as is the rear end. Body and paint under the rear pan and front pan is exceptional as the pictures show. Upon removing the carpets inside, the original paint is seen clearly with no rust. Underside of the car is exceptionally solid. Trunk, door, and bonnet shut lines are very nice, as is the chrome. The interior is virtually flawless with Conley leather clamshell seats and Wilton wool carpets. The Hardura on the interior and the trunk is flawless. The turned aluminum on the console was scratched, and we replaced this with brand new. We also cleaned the carburetors and replaced the diaphragms in them.
It is very unusual to have the car with the original boot cover as this has. The top, I believe, is original, but the rear window has darkened, and the condition is not representative of the rest of the car. As I write this, we are currently replacing the top with a new one from BAS Jaguar Trim and will also be recovering/restoring the header, straps, webbing, seals, etc. to new factory spec.
Recent auctions are showing an incredible trend for early E-types, and as I have worked on them for the past 30 years I am well aware that most are damaged, non-matching number, rusty cars that have been put back together. Offered for a fraction of recent auction comps.
