One of the cars we just purchased out of a large estate on the West coast, the owner of all the cars was a meticulous mechanic who was very interested in originality, and was very capable of fine tuning to keep his cars in the highest state of readiness for use. He passed away in October, and we purchased the cars from the estate in February.
This stunning car is finished in Spa white with a striking red leather interior, proper loop carpet, and highly detailed inside as original. Everything operates/turn signals cancel, all gauge read properly. There is virtually nothing you could do to improve the interior.
The exterior is straight with excellent gaps, very nice paint, excellent chrome, and fit of all panels is proper and nice. Upon removing the spare tire lid, you instantly see there is virtually no rust – not even surface. This is what I would call a true rust-free TR3B.
The major difference of the TR3A and B was the fitting of 86mm pistons up from 83mm. Additionally, a fully synchronized transmission, designed for the TR4, was introduced in the last of the TR3s. This car carries both of these, as original, as well as factory overdrive, which is representative of less than 8% of the cars. Also fitted with 60-spoke wire wheels, the car is extremely representative of what a TR3B should be. I have restored, serviced, and judges Triumphs for over 35 years, and I own many myself. This is the kind of car I would be very proud to own. Zero rust in the sills, the rear boxes of the trunk, the floor pans, etc.
When you start the car you hear how incredibly smooth and well-tuned it is. The normal hood vibrations are not there, and the exhaust is actually not grounding out which is extremely rare. Just an exceptionally nice, correct, ready to go, rare sports car. These have begun to increase in value, and are normally in the upper $30k’s to low $40k’s.
