It has always amazed me how an early MGB can be completely different than a later one, even though they share so many components. The car we are offering is basically the best combination of components that MG ever provided. Cosmetically, the car is finished with a beautiful early metal dash featuring gauge binnacles and lovely black leather with red piping, thus epitomizing the craftsmanship of 60’s British cars. The MGB was never designed to be equipped with emission controls, giant rubber bumpers, headrests, and many things that the federal government mandated, which eventually turned them into a completely different car. It was designed to be a smooth, sexy, roadster with minimalistic attributes that accentuated the design, rather than looking like added on afterthoughts. Another reason, ‘66 & ‘67 MGBs are so sought after is they were equipped with the new 1800cc 5 main bearing engine, which was much stronger and more reliable than the 3 bearing engines of the past.
This particular car was subject to a significant restoration, having beautifully done floor replacements and being thoroughly cleaned and detailed from top to bottom. The engine runs silky smooth with great oil pressure and no smoke or noises. The transmission is quite possibly the nicest shifting one I have ever driven, after being rebuilt by John Twist, noted MG expert. The car is finished in red and is quite shiny and straight, but does have a couple spots that have small specks called “solvent pop.” These do not detract from the car in anyway. When it is outside it is nothing short of stunning. Everything inside the car has been replaced, as well as a fantastically fitting top, new chrome, rubber, suspension, brakes, steering, wiring, etc. Nothing has been left out.
In the past 5 years, these cars have dramatically increased in value, and we have had multiple sales of Bs in the upper $30’s. This car was part of a collection which was sold by a gentleman was moving away and was forced to sell quickly. Our great luck purchasing this car, significantly under value, allows us the opportunity to present to it the next owner at an exceptionally good price. You will not find a nicer driving car anywhere close to this car’s cost. Ready to go home with you, and give many years of enjoyable motoring.
